    There are free lunches for people logging long hours in law firms and investment banks – and free dinners, too – all financed by companies eager to keep highly-paid employees pasted to their desks. But when entrepreneur Jason Finger became a lawyer in the late 1990s, he and his friends couldn’t help but notice how much time was squandered over meals nonetheless. Staff had to rifle through drawers for menus, call in orders, calculate tips and submit expense reports for reimbursement.

    Less than a year on the job, he and those friends left to form a company – SeamlessWeb – that automates the entire process. A Web site stocked with menus from thousands of eateries, all categorized by cuisine and price levels, SeamlessWeb enables hungry staffers to place orders with a few clicks on their keyboards or mobile phones. Billing back to the employers is similarly streamlined.
